Our dedicated volunteers are out and about throughout the spring, summer and autumn, tackling the scourge of Single Use Pollution. But it shouldn’t just be about removing litter that has already been dropped. It should be about working with the public to try to change behaviour and avoid the problem in the first place, and also calling for changes in the way we live, such as bringing in a Deposit Return Scheme on drinks containers, which could significantly reduce levels of littering.
Over the last week, we’ve been busy working with the media to get this key message across, working with our partners the National Park Authority, Plantlife, Trash Free Trails, the BMC and others.
Chris Dearden from BBC Wales came with us on a special Caru Eryri event last week and produced a great package of TV and radio items and website stories about our work which went out over last weekend. We were even heard on BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music. You can see a BBC website story about this here in English or Welsh. You can also hear our Director Rory Francis talking the proposed Deposit Return Scheme on drinks containers here, at 28:30 in.
The day before, we got the opportunity to contribute to this piece on Channel 5 news, on the problems caused by over-tourism and the need to make tourism in Eryri genuinely sustainable.
