Time to dust off your lenses: we’re launching our 2021 photo competition

The Snowdonia Society has launched its fourth annual photo competition, inviting keen photographers to submit their favourite image of Snowdonia by the closing date of Sunday 27 June 2021.

Twelve winning images will be selected and will go into the Snowdonia Society’s calendar for 2022, available to purchase online from September.

Twelve winners will receive a free calendar featuring their image and 50% off Snowdonia Society membership. There will also be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for the top three images. Prizes confirmed: A stay at Elen’s Castle Hotel; Trefriw Woollen Mills gift voucher and an artisan vase from Bethesda Pottery.

This year’s competition judge will be the Welsh contemporary artist Catrin Menai, whose work has an emphasis on place and belonging. Catrin says:

“There is this kind of openness in the landscape of Snowdonia, ‘home’, as I’m lucky to call it, that offers this rich seam of material. What we do with this material is unique and up to us. At times in the mountains, things appear momentarily then disappear, but there is always the feeling that they were there. Sometimes the feeling can be described in an image, though not always. I’ve always had a curiosity towards the way artists move through this: a landscape that is not fixed but expansive, and how might a camera handle this ‘imaginative site’. Can it?
As the many parts around the picture move, reach out…”

Entrants are invited to submit one photo they feel best captures Snowdonia. Entries must be digital images at full resolution and in landscape format.  Send to info@snowdonia-society.org.uk by midnight on June 27 2021. Winners will be announced on Monday 19 July 2021.
