The Secret Lives of Mammals; Discovered!

The Secret Life of Mammals was a mammal workshop run at Ty Hyll with the help of Dave Thorpe and Sam Dyer from the North Wales Mammal Group.  Using both hi-tech and simple methods, participants found out about the mammals that frequent the grounds at Ty Hyll.  Sam’s Anabat detector showed us a visual recording of bat calls, Dave’s water shrew tubes were less successful, but his chocolate flavoured wax rings were a hit with mice and recorded some interesting chew marks!  We had tunnels with footprint ink pads which recorded some interesting footprints and one tunnel had been stuffed full of leaves by someone.  It was great to find out about the secret life of Ty Hyll once all the visitors have left for the day…
