Harlech Beach Clean 2016

Supporting Surfers Against Sewage

The Snowdonia Society are supporting Surfers Against Sewage in their petition to bring back bottle deposits to stop plastic pollution in our oceans.

Each year the Snowdonia Society heads out to Harlech beach in order to take part in the Great British Beach Clean (GBBC) alongside the Marine Conservation Society (MCS). The data we gather is vital for the MCS to gain a better perspective on the litter problem across the beaches of the UK.

“In 2015 we found, on average, a staggering 99 plastic drinks bottles on every kilometre we cleaned. They’re everywhere!” Great British Beach Clean 2015 Report, Marine Conservation Society.

During our 2016 GBBC our volunteers gathered 52 plastic bottles along a single stretch of Harlech beach. This was up 22 from the 30 plastic bottles we collected along the same stretch in 2015.
