Walk: Chasing the treeline with Mike Raine
Llanberis to Elidir Fawr, 09:00 – 16:00
Join Mike Raine, author of Nature of Snowdonia and The Mountain Leader – a Practical Manual, for an exploration of the tree line in Eryri.
We’ll ascend Elidir Fawr from Llanberis via Coed Padarn and Chwarel Dinorwig. On the journey we will identify the species which indicate different types of woodland, then as we get higher we’ll observe how these fade out and are replaced by montane species. This is a long tough walk from near sea level to over 3000 feet. It will require heading off paths at times. Having said that it’s entirely possible that we won’t actually make it to the summit, the weather will have the last say on that goal!
Fitness level – strenuous
