The wildflower meadows of south Snowdonia

The wildflower meadows of south Snowdonia

10am-1pm, Dolgellau area

A short walk with SNPA warden Rhys Gwynn to the wildflower meadows of Llwyniarth, a site of special scientific interest on the fringes of Dolgellau. (The ‘iarth’ in Llwyniarth refers to the pointed sticks traditionally used to herd oxen while ploughing in times gone by).

There’s a variety of notable species here, including the small ox-eye daisy, eyebright, yellow rattle and orchid as well as a myriad of insects that are associated with this rare habitat. And from each angle wonderful views of the mountains of southern Snowdonia. This walk will be conducted principally through the Welsh language – learners welcome!
