*POSTPONED* Gorse Clearance

Gorse clearance, Bethesda

Booking essential; limited spaces

Remains of very ancient settlements, including from the Iron Age, can be found all over Snowdonia in the form of hut circles, ramparts and cromlechs. Part of the new Carneddau Landscape Partnership project aims to celebrate and protect this important part of our local heritage. Archaeologists agree that some vegetation that grows over these sites can damage them under the ground as well as hide them from view.

We would like volunteers to help remove gorse from a couple of sites of ancient settlement on the lower slopes of Moel Faban. We will use bow-saws and loppers (and thick gloves) to cut the gorse and drag the cut branches to a safe bonfire on-site. We’ll use a custom-built structure that will not damage the ground at all. We will be partnering with the National Trust rangers for the Carneddau and Glyderau, who are the landowners.

Expect to hear about more very similar days over the next few years as a part of the wider Carneddau Landscape Partnership project.

We have clear protocols and risk assessments for coronavirus to allow us to carry out practical outdoor work as safely as possible. If you would like more information on these please get in touch. To ensure social distancing is possible at all times, the number of volunteers for this day is strictly limited. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
