APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR – £30,000-£35,000 FTE
Cymdeithas Eryri Snowdonia Society, founded in 1967 and now with over 2500 members and annual expenditure of £120,000, is a registered charity dedicated to ensuring that the beauty and diversity of the National Park’s landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage remain for present and future generations to enjoy. The Society is managed by an Executive Committee who are elected at annual general meetings of the members and are the Trustees of the charity.
The current Director, Alun Pugh, is standing down because he has been selected as a candidate in the forthcoming General Election.
The Director heads a small paid staff and works closely with the Trustees, and in particular with the honorary officers of the Society. S/He is the public face of the Society and represents it to the media, local communities and the public more generally. S/He plays a leading part in the Society’s relations with the National Park Authority and other public bodies, and spearheads its efforts to obtain grant income and commercial sponsorship.
The Director is responsible for the efficient operation of the Society’s office and the effectiveness of its communications. S/He makes recommendations to the Trustees about the campaigns and activities the Society can most advantageously undertake, in the context of its Vision for Eryri and Business Plan, and directs activities and campaigns in furtherance of the decisions taken.
The Trustees look to the Director for innovation and leadership in modernising the Society’s operations and taking it forward to a more sustainable future, with a growing and revitalised membership.
Although based at the Society’s offices the Director must expect to spend a significant part of the time out of the office, primarily in and around the Snowdonia National Park.
Some evening and weekend work will be required in order to attend meetings and events, and a reasonable amount of time off in lieu will be allowed for that.
A part-time contract may be possible, with salary calculated pro rata.
If an employee joins the Society’s stakeholder pension scheme or belongs to another pension scheme the Society makes an employer’s contribution of 6% of gross salary.
Comprehensive information about the Society and its activities is on this website and in the Annual Review 2009.
A completed application form must be emailed to director@snowdonia-society.org.uk by noon on Friday 5th February. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on Wednesday 17th February.
If you would like to discuss this vacancy or have any questions, please telephone the Chair of the Society, Dr David Lewis, on 07879011790.
The successful candidate will have:
• Excellent communication skills, oral and written
• Enthusiasm for and commitment to the aims of the Society
• Understanding of current issues affecting National Parks and Snowdonia
• Ability to think strategically
• Proven effectiveness in delivering to meet agreed objectives
• Familiarity with standard IT applications and enthusiasm for IT solutions
• The interpersonal skills required to work flexibly as a leader or member of teams
Fluency in oral and written Welsh would be a real advantage, but at a minimum we would expect some knowledge of spoken Welsh.
