Farming and Landscapes Award

The Farming and Landscape Awards showcase the Society’s work to support the agricultural community and conservation within the National Park. The first Snowdonia Society Farming and Landscape Awards were held in 1993, with the aim to:

 “Provide recognition to those farmers who are combining commercial farming with important  conservation work, by actively managing their farms in an environmentally friendly way through  carrying out work that has a strong environmental benefit, such as the maintenance of dry stone  walls, traditional buildings, or work to enhance biodiversity”

There have been 7 events since then, with the competition attracting up to 19 entries of a very high standard. 

The Farming and Landscape Awards provide due recognition for those farmers who have carried out important conservation work, strengthen the links between the Society and the farming community and show that commercial farming and conservation can go hand in hand. We hope to hold the next awards in summer 2011 and are currently seeking sponsorship for this initiative.

Many farmers are actively managing their farms in an environmentally friendly way, by carrying out work that has a strong environmental benefit, such as the maintenance of dry stone walling and traditional buildings, or work that significantly enhances biodiversity.

The Snowdonia Society wishes to provide recognition for these endeavours by making awards to those farmers in the National Park who have done the most to enhance the landscape and promote wildlife.
