Cymdeithas Eryri - Snowdonia Society

Gwaith Caled Gwirfoddolwyr Cymdeithas Eryri yn ennill prif wobr.

Hardworking Snowdonia Society volunteers scoop major award.

Mae gwirfoddolwyr amgylchedd y Gymdeithas Eryri, sydd wedi ei sefydlu yng Nghapel Curig, wedi derbyn gwobr clodfawr gan 'Cadw Cymru'n Daclus', y prif fudiad o fewn Cymru sy’n hyrwyddo amgylchedd glan a di-ysbwriel. Teithiodd Paul Lewis, Cyd- drefnydd Gwirfoddolwyr y Gymdeithas, i Ganolfan Mileniwm Cymru yng Nghaerdydd ar y 14eg o Orffennaf, i dderbyn y wobr 'Ymdrech Hir Dymor' ar ran y gwirfoddolwyr oddi wrth Weinidog Cynulliad Llywodraeth Cymru Carwyn Jones.

Environmental volunteers with Capel Curig based Snowdonia Society have received a prestigious award from Keep Wales Tidy, the major organisation within Wales promoting a clean and litter free environment. Paul Lewis the Society’s Volunteer Coordinator travelled to Wales’ Millenium Centre in Cardiff on 14th July, to receive the ‘Long Term Effort’ award on behalf of the volunteers from the Welsh Assembly Government Minister Carwyn Jones.

Fe wobrwywyd y Gwirfoddolwyr a'r wobr gyntaf a dystysgrif mewn ffram a £500 fel yr ymgeiswyr buddugol yn eu categori. Mae gwirfoddolwyr y Gymdiethas wedi bod yn herio tywydd anrhagweladwy ac, yn aml, heriol Eryri ers tros ddeng mlynedd, mewn cais i dacluso rhannau o'r Parc Cenedlaethol sydd yn dioddef o ysbwriel, ysbwriel anghyfreithlon, a mannau hyll.

The Volunteers were awarded the first prize of a framed certificate and a £500 award as the winning entrants in their category. Society volunteers have been braving Snowdonia’s unpredictable and often challenging weather and environment for well over ten years, in their quest to clear up areas of the National Park suffering from litter, fly tipping and eyesores.

Dywedodd Paul Lewis, "Mae'n wych derbyn y wobr hon ar ran ein gwirfoddolwyr sydd yn gweithio'n galed ac yn ymroddedig, mae'n wobr gwych am eu holl ymdrech dros y blynyddoedd. Yn anffodus mae cadw amgylchedd syfrdanol naturiol Eryri yn daclus ac yn rhydd o ysbwriel ac ysbwriel angyfreithlon yn dasg sydd ohoni oherwydd diffyg parch pobl am y man ysbrydoledig hwn. Yn ffodus bydd gwirfoddolwyr bob amser yn barod i roi eu hamser i roi cymorth i gadw amgylchedd Eryri yn hyfryd, iddynt eu hunain ac i eraill sydd yn caru'r tir am ei mynyddoedd, llynoedd, ei ffriddoedd a'i choedwigoedd."

Paul Lewis said, “It is great to receive this award on behalf of our hardworking and dedicated volunteers and it is a great reward for all their efforts over the years. Keeping the stunning natural environment of Snowdonia clean and free of litter and fly tipping is unfortunately an ongoing task as there are still people out there with no respect for this inspiring place. Fortunately there will always be volunteers keen to give up their own time to help keep the environment of Snowdonia beautiful, both for themselves and for others who love this land of mountains, lakes, moor land and forest”.

I ddangos natur gwaith grwp gwirfoddolwyr Eryri, fe gyfarfu grwp ohonynt yn ne y Parc Cenedlaethol diwrnod wedi'r seremoni wobrwyo i daclo ceir wedi eu gadael ac oedd wedi heintio glan Afon Wnion ers nifer o flynyddoedd. Fe gyfarfu'r gwirfoddolwyr ger pentref Brithdir a gweithio ar y cyd gyda Wardeniaid Awdurdod y Parc a gweithwyr Ystadau i symud nifer o'r cerbydau. O achos natur serth glan yr afon a phwysau rhai o'r echelau a darnau'r corff, cafodd system winsh a phwli ei gosod. Cafodd yr eitemau lleiaf eu llwytho mewn sachau un tunell a'u tynnu i fyny'r glan. Erbyn diwedd y dydd roedd y ceir rhydlud a'r darnau erailll wedi eu rhoi mewn sgip oedd yn eu haros ynghyd a pentwr o ffensys rhydlud.

To illustrate the ongoing nature of the Society’s volunteer work, a group of them met up in the south of the National Park on the day following to awards ceremony to tackle dumped vehicles that had blighted the banks of the Afon Wnion for many years. The volunteers met near the village of Brithdir and worked in conjunction with Park Authority Wardens and Estate workers to remove the various vehicles. Due to the steep nature of the river bank and the weight of some of the axles and body parts, a winch and pulley system was set up. All the smaller items were loaded into ‘one tonne’ sacks and hauled up the bank. By the end of the day all the rusting vehicles and parts had been consigned to a waiting skip as well as a pile of rusty fencing.

Fe barhaodd Paul Lewis Cyd-drefnydd Gwirfoddolwyr, "Mae hwn wedi bod yn dacluso gwych, ond eto ni fyddai wedi ei gyflawni heb gydweithrediad perchennog  y tir a chymorth Awdurdod y Parc. Mae hyn yn dangos beth all gael ei gyflawni trwy bartneriaeth yn gweithio rhwng gwahanol awdurdodau. Mae'r darn gwastad ar hyd glan afon hyfryd Wnion  unwaith eto fel newydd ac mae'r gwirfoddolwyr wedi cyflawni diwrnod gwerthfawr arall o waith".

Paul Lewis the Volunteer Coordinator continued, “This has been an excellent clear up, yet it could not have been achieved without the cooperation of the landowner and the assistance of the Park Authority. This goes to show what can be achieved through partnership working between different organisations. The stretch of bank alongside the beautiful Afon Wnion is now pristine once more and the volunteers have completed another valuable day’s work”.
