Yr wythnos hon cyhoeddir llyfr dwyieithog difyr newydd sef ‘Eryri – Parc o Dan Bwysau’ gan Wasg Pesda, Caernarfon, i ddathlu pen-blwydd yr elusen gadwraeth flaenllaw, Cymdeithas Eryri, yn 40 oed. O fewn Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri, a grëwyd ym 1951, mae tirlun garw mawreddog, amrywiaeth naturiol di-ben-draw a chysylltiadau diwylliannol sy’n mynd yn ôl filoedd o flynyddoedd. Gweledigaeth ei sefydlwyr oedd gwarchod yr ardal arbennig hon rhag datblygiad niweidiol am byth. O’r cychwyn, fodd bynnag, cafwyd problemau ac yn deillio o’r rhain tyfodd y syniad o gymdeithas annibynnol wedi ymrwymo i warchod a gwella tirlun unigryw Eryri. Ym 1967 sefydlwyd Cymdeithas Eryri ac erbyn heddiw, mae dros 2,600 o aelodau yn cefnogi ei gwaith sydd eisoes wedi ennill gwobrau. Ysgrifennwyd y llyfr gan yr awdur a’r arweinydd mynydd lleol Rob Collister, ac o fewn ei gloriau mae’n olrhain hanes yr elusen – ei llwyddiannau a’i methiannau, ei gwrthdrawiadau mewnol, a’r personoliaethau fu’n ymwneud â hi. Mae’r trafodaethau am faterion ehangach sydd wedi effeithio ar y Parc Cenedlaethol dros y deugain mlynedd diwethaf yn arwyddocaol ymhell y tu hwnt i ffiniau Eryri. Dyma stori hynod o ddifyr fydd hefyd yn ffynhonnell gwybodaeth i bobl sy’n byw ac yn gweithio o fewn y Parc Cenedlaethol yn ogystal â’r ystod eang o ymwelwyr sy’n galw heibio. Meddai Dan James, Cyfarwyddwr Gweithrediadau’r Gymdeithas: “Mae ein pen-blwydd yn 40 yn rhoi cyfle delfrydol i ystyried y newidiadau sydd wedi digwydd o fewn y Gymdeithas a’r Parc Cenedlaethol ac i edrych ymlaen at sawl her yn y dyfodol. Rydym yn hynod o ddiolchgar I Rob Collister a Gwasg Pesda am ein cynorthwyo i gofnodi hanes y Gymdeithas a fu’n gythryblus ambell dro yn ogystal â thirlun y Parc Cenedlaethol sy’n parhau i’n hysbrydoli er ei bod yn newid yn feunyddiol. DIWEDD	A fascinating new bilingual book, ‘Snowdonia - Park Under Pressure’ is published this week by Caernarfon based Pesda Press in celebration of the 40^th anniversary of leading conservation charity, the Snowdonia Society. Created in 1951, the Snowdonia National Park is a landscape of rugged grandeur, great natural diversity and cultural associations going back thousands of years. The vision of its founders was that this very special region should be protected from harmful development for all time. From the beginning, however, there were problems and out of these difficulties grew the idea of an independent society dedicated to conserving and enhancing the unique landscape of Snowdonia. Founded in 1967 the Snowdonia Society today, forty years on, has over 2,600 members committed to its award-winning work. Written by local author and mountain guide Rob Collister, the book chronicles the story of the charity - its successes and failures, its internal conflicts, the personalities involved. The discussions of wider issues that have affected the National Park over the last forty years have relevance far beyond Snowdonia. It is a story which will fascinate and inform those who live and work within the National Park as well as being of great interest to the wide range of visitors. The Society’s Operations Director, Dan James said: “Our 40^th anniversary provides an ideal moment to reflect on the past changes within the Society and the National Park whilst looking ahead to future challenges.
